Do i install baseboard before carpet. All paint is to be done before carpet installation to avoid dirty boots and shoes on new carpet and to avoid any paint spatter. But baseboard installation for carpet is a bit different than the norm. The carpet installer can run the tack strip up to the trim then roll excess carpet under the trim. Removing baseboards before installing carpet isn t absolutely necessary but it can make the task easier in some aspects.

This means that if the installation company needs to re stretch the carpet at a later date they may need to loosen some of the baseboards in order to pull the carpet up. The edge of the carpet is then rolled under the edge of the baseboard trim. We use 3 8 blocks to keep the baseboard up off the subfloor while we tack it on so the carpet installer can tuck it under.

In some cases this will not be possible since. Otherwise they get the tack strip too close to the wall and you won t get the carpet out years from now without taking the base off again. We always install the baseboard after the hard surfaces but before carpet. If the baseboards are not removed the tack strips of the carpet will be laid up until the edge of the trim.
